Richmond, VA’s Carbon Leaf has a genre crossing sound - blending folk rock, Americana, Celtic, bluegrass, rock and pop, but the title of one of their early albums, Ether-Electrified Porch Music, seems to conjure the right image: An aura of warmth, with music punctuated by diverse instruments including mandolin, upright bass, violin, penny whistle, banjo, as well as acoustic and electric guitars. A portion of profits from the sale of Carbon Leaf's strings go to The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and improving the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, so I am thrilled that Carbon Leaf has teamed up with Wear Your Music and The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. After a long battle - with many surgeries and medications - I'm happy to say that my disease has been largely under control over this last year. This isn't the case for the majority of Crohns and colitis sufferers who are dealing with chronic pain and flair ups on a daily, even hourly, basis. I jump at any chance to help raise awareness of these chronic illnesses.- Jesse Humphrey, Carbon Leaf
