Jon "The Barber" Gutwillig is a Philadelphia-based guitarist and lead singer for the trance-fusion band The Disco Biscuits. Since breaking out in the mid-90s, Gutwillig - or “Barber” as he’s affectionately known - has led the Biscuits across the country for countless tours, releasing 8+ studio albums and numerous live recordings, with most of the band’s live shows being recorded and released.
Gutwillig has forged a sound that draws on elements of rock, electronica, and jazz-based improvisation. His post-traditional style infuses neo-baroque riffs with trancey progressions to create a method that evades classification into a genre. For nearly 3 decades, he’s brought his sonic style to adoring crowds from New York City to Europe and Japan.
The Disco Biscuits are a band of transformation and invention. The Philadelphia-based group remains the pioneers of “Trance-Fusion” - bridging the gap between electronic dance music and jam rock - while consistently looking for new sonic boundaries to break and avenues to tell stories within.
With a vast touring schedule and ever-changing live shows, The Disco Biscuits’ soul belongs as much to marathon dance parties as it does to live improvisational journeys. They employ emerging technologies to help them create music that is 100% human although, perhaps, not entirely of this planet. See more at www.discobiscuits.com.
A portion of profits from the sale of Jon Gutwillig's strings go to HeadCount: HeadCount is a non-partisan organization that works with musicians to promote participation in democracy. See more at www.headcount.org.
