A guitar string. A good idea. Twenty years of turning a connection to music into something you can hold onto.
This is the story of Wear Your Music.
BEFORE THERE WAS WEAR YOUR MUSIC
In the summer of 2004, jeweler Hannah Garrison began transforming discarded guitar strings into bracelets. What started as jewelry for the people around her would become the seed of Wear Your Music.
New York City · 2006
Steve Bernstein, then publisher of Relix Magazine, posted an ad looking for creative ways to repurpose guitar strings. Hannah answered with an idea she already knew by hand: bracelets.
They met in Manhattan and agreed to start a company that very day. The idea took shape: use strings played and donated by famous musicians, turn them into jewelry, and support charities chosen by those musicians.
Music. A second life for used strings. A way to give back.
OUR STORY, THROUGH THE YEARS
We introduced the Garageband Bracelet—a colorful, one-size-fits-all design made from new guitar strings. Available in multiple colors, it gave even more music lovers a way to wear their love of music.
We introduced a new style of musician bracelet, carefully hand-wrapping each artist’s donated strings with silver wire to create the Wrapped Musician Bracelet.
The Musician Bracelet was redesigned with a stainless-steel tube clasp, allowing us to offer more custom sizes for a more comfortable, precise fit.
Noticing the smaller pieces of string left over from making bracelets and cuffs, Hannah created the Guitar String Pendant—a new way to transform those remnants into meaningful jewelry while eliminating even more waste.
Hannah becomes sole owner, continuing to shape Wear Your Music around sustainability and giving back.
Wear Your Music is selected as a FedEx Small Business Grant winner.
When the pandemic forced so many small businesses to close, Wear Your Music closed its studio and moved into the basement of Hannah’s home. Our small team took turns safely creating, answering emails, and shipping orders—keeping the business going and continuing to support charities through the sale of musicians’ strings.
We celebrate the musicians, fans and stories that have made these twenty years possible.

THE COLLECTION EVOLVES
What began with one bracelet grew into an entire collection of ways to keep a connection to music close.
THE ARCHIVE
Different styles. Different strings. Different stories. A connection to music—and a commitment to giving materials a second life—runs through them all.
The design at the heart of the founding story: a bracelet made from strings played and donated by a musician.
The early One-Size-Fits-All bracelets brought a broader range of colors to the collection.
Made from recycled plastic shopping bags, these bright, friendship-style bracelets gave hard-to-degrade plastic a colorful second life—and quickly became a fan favorite.
We transformed thrifted flannel shirts into one-of-a-kind band merchandise by adding custom embroidered logos—giving existing clothing a second life and keeping more materials out of landfills.
THE REASON WE KEEP MAKING
For twenty years, Wear Your Music has brought fans closer to the musicians they love while giving used strings a new life and supporting musician-chosen charities.
To every musician who donated strings, every fan who shared a story, and everyone who has worn a piece of ours: thank you for being part of this.
Here’s to the next chapter.
